Apolo Hotel Corporation Ltd (Sheraton Hotel) and Siyani Brothers and Company Ltd., have in conjunction with Chartered Quality Surveyor, signed a renovation agreement worth $1.5m, reports Gilbert Awekofua.
Dirk Ten Brink, the hotel’s director of operation, said the renovation is meant to convert the staff flats located between the hotel and State House in Nakasero into 20 apartments, expected to generate about $30,000 to the hotel monthly.
“Our market is growing and we thought its location in the centre is excellent, we could make some money out of it,” Brink said.
The building originally housed 22 families of staff, who have now been given money to rent elsewhere.
The signing of the agreement took place at Sheraton Kampala Hotel on Tuesday. Porbat B.Siyani signed for Siyani Brothers and Company, Brink for Apolo Hotel Corporation and Roger Allen for Chartered Quality Surveyor, a company that is to handle financial administration of the project. Renovation starts on October 1, and completion is expected by January 2003.
Siyani, whose company is reputed for quality work, promised that the renovation is to raise the apartments to the standard of Sheraton as a five star hotel. Other construction works accomplished by Siyani Brothers include the The New Vision’s printing department, Para lodge, Lincon International School, Golfcourse Apartments and City Bank. Ends
