UGANDAN drivers in the Coast Equator rally in Mombasa, Kenya October 3-5 will find it even harder to stop South African ace Johnny Gemmel, who has acquired the services of a local navigator.
Gemmel (Subaru Impreza) who left Ugandans stunned after beating them to the TOTAL Pearl of Africa Uganda rally early this month, will be navigated by Kenyan Abdu Sidi.
Gemmel’s long time South African co-driver Robert Paisley will not travel to Kenya.
Emma Katto, Moses Lumala, Charlie Lubega, Kuku Ranjit and UPDF warrant officer I Ismail Lule are expected to head for Mombasa.
Gemmel’s partnership with vastly experienced Sidi is arguably the best combination in the event and nothing short of ill luck would stop the South African from clinching the 2002 African title.
Gemmel leads the ARC title race with 40 points, 18 better than Zambian Satwant Singh, who is yet to register for the rally.
