Plan International donates to Luweero

Sep 30, 2002

By Elias Mwanje PLAN International, a child focus NGO, has donated equipment worth sh60m to FIDA Field Office in Luweero to help provide legal aid to people living with HIV/AIDS supported by this NGO in Luweero district.
The equipment included a pick-up truck, a computer and printer, cupboard and chairs.
The Plan International program area manager, Apollo Lawoko, handed over the equipment to the acting chairperson of FIDA, Irene Mulyagonja Kakooza.
Lawoko said the three year arrangement followed an agreement between Plan International and FIDA for the provision of legal aid to people affected by HIV/AIDS for protection of human and property rights.
He said children affected by HIV/AIDS faced problems of property grabbing, disinheritance, divorce, social rejection and marginalisation.
It was reported that the increased number of widows and orphans had weakened the traditional social support and eroded the moral fibre of ensuring child protection. Ends
