The Government has borrowed US$48m from the African Development Bank for the construction of six mental health units in referral hospitals to supplement Butabika Hospital.
The state minister for health, Capt. Mike Mukula (pictured), said this while commissioning Arua Hospital Dr. Matthew Lukwiya AIDS centre and maternity ward on Saturday. Dr Lukwiya, who was a doctor in St Mary’s Hospital Lacor, Gulu, died of ebola he contracted from his patients.
The centre and maternity ward were funded by Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF)-France at a cost of over US$140,000 (sh245m).Mukula said mental health units would be built in Arua, Soroti, Hoima, Jinja among other hospitals.
