New term for Sebuwufu
Kampala — Makerere University vice-chancellor Prof. John Sebuwufu could not hide his excitement as he told The New Vision that his contract had been renewed. “I am legally there. Ask State House about the details. The contract has been renewed for three months,” he said on Sunday. He, however, said he was to retire after the end of the extension. Sebuwufu’s contract expired early this month and there was concern whether he was in office illegality.

Don Wants Law Changed
KAMPALA — A Makerere University lecturer has said the law which requires aspirants for parliamentary seats to have a minimum of A’ Level academic qualifications should be scrapped. “The existing electoral laws on eligibility to run for a parliamentary seat are restrictive,” Dr. Sylvia Tamale said. She said the law blocks over 70 % of the women from vying for parliamentary seats.Tamale was addressing women legislators from Tanzania, Uganda and Eritrea at a seminar on strategies to increase women in politics, organised by the British Council at Grand Imperial Hotel.
