NATIONAL golf champion Deo Akope will face the other greats from East Africa at the Rwanda Open this weekend.

NATIONAL golf champion Deo Akope will face the other greats from East Africa at the Rwanda Open this weekend.
The 24-year-old player (h/c+1), travelling by road, was due in Kigali last evening.
Over 50 golfers will be in action at the par-70 Nyarutarama course on the outskirts of Kigali.
Akope, making a second appearance at the 54-hole strokeplay event, will join another Ugandan star Stephen Katwiremu.
Katwiremu, a businessman in Kigali, will be looking for a second win after his success in 2000.
A local entrant Davis Kashaka beat Katwiremu to the top award last year.
Kashaka’s other challengers include Tanzanian star Olais Mollel, winner of the gross title last year.
Two other Tanzanian players Shaban Omari and Stanley Sanga are also due in Kigali.
Kenyan stars Kopan Timbe, David Odhiambo, Wachira Mahihu will also participate.
