In Gulu, Kitgum and Pader districts, S4 and S6 candidates have moved to safer places to do their final exams which kicked off yesterday countrywide.
The exercise began with no incidence reported as the candidates wrote their practical and theory papers, the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) said yesterday.
“It has been okay so far. The people who have called me say there has been no problem,” Eva Konde, UNEB’s public relations officer, said.
Konde clarified that UNEB was not operating mobile examination centres as portrayed in the media recently.
“We don’t have mobile exam centres as the media called them. What is happening is that schools or candidates have moved from the disturbed areas to peaceful ones and we have provided for them,” she said.
It was recently reported that the Ministry of Education was planning to set up mobile centres to ensure that candidates in war-hit areas do their exams safely.
In Kampala schools, the exams started well. Veronica Maraka, the administrator at Greenhill Academy said, “we haven’t had any problems, everything has gone very well. Exams started on time, the invigilators arrived on time.”
Asked about UNEB’s 7,000 spies to catch exam cheats, Maraka said, “this is not new because we had them (spies) last year. They were not here in the morning, maybe they will come in the afternoon.”
