Seven students of St. Kaggwa High School in Bushenyi district are reported to have gone missing for about a week under unclear circumstances.

The headmaster, John Kalibbala, told the New Vision on Friday that the students went missing on Saturday evening.

“As soon as we noticed that the students were missing we informed the police who joined us in the search,” he said.

He said three of the students were in S.5, two in S.2, one in S.6 and one S.1.

He said he had informed the parents and was waiting for them to confirm whether their sons were at home.

The district Police commander, Makmot Okello, confirmed that the incident had been reported.

The resident district commissioner, Bamusedde Bwambale, allayed fears that the students could have been abducted or recruited by rebels rumoured to be recruiting in western Uganda.

“Most of those students were indisciplined chaps who just run out of school without permission,” he said.
