THE Ministry of agriculture, animal industry and fisheries has supplied fish fry worth sh18m to Mbarara district

THE Ministry of agriculture, animal industry and fisheries has supplied fish fry worth sh18m to Mbarara district, reports Kyomuhendo Muhanga.

This is part of President Museveni’s campaign pledge to fight mal nutrition in the country.

Sarah Bananuka, the district assistant resident district commissioner, said this while inspecting the consignment of over 90,000 fish fry at Kyera farm on Saturday.

The fry that contained 72,271 fry of Nile perch and 20,196 of catfish, were supplied by Fex mixed farm on Mubende and Mukundane farm in Mbarara.

Ananias Bagumire, a senior fisheries officer in the ministry, said the programme was to cover the country and that more than 10 districts had already benefited.

“The primary objective of this scheme under strategic intervention funds is to fight food insecurity and poverty from the communities,” Bagumire said.

Kyera farm fish pond is one the controversial sh3.4b valley dams that were constructed by the ministry.
