ANTHONY Knagg fired 70 nett to win the New Year Open on Monday. The Englishman, playing off handicap 18, was one stroke better than local player Arthur Turakira (h/c 12) at Kitante course.

The Englishman, playing off handicap 18, was one stroke better than local player Arthur Turakira (h/c 12) at Kitante course. The competition set the stage for more activity in the new golf season. The event comes after the End of the Year Open held in Entebbe won by Kampala golfer Andrew Opio. Saleh Tambwe, Tanzania High Commissioner to Uganda, was the other leading performer. He carded 73 nett while Obalim at 72 and Kadoma at 75 were above the rest. Alice Owori, a leading players, started the season with a bang taking the ladies title at 69 nett.
