The Uganda Amateur Swimming Association over the weekend disclosed that Kampala tycoon, Sudhir Rupareila offered the national team free training facilities at his soon to be completed modern pool. This is indeed good news for our team now that they do not have to go out of their way and look for modern facilities to prepare for international events. Though the offer takes effect in Febuary, when the facility is expected to be ready, our swimmers should be excited by the news. This should have been a very good gesture had it spread up to the junior swimmers. Well as our team has done quite a lot to bring honour to our nation, it should be noted that its high time we learnt to invest for the future. The free facilities would thus most benefit the young ones as we need to tap young talent into the sport. Most facilities country wide are commercialised. Some regions within the nation even lack such facilities at all. What of the sport itself? Looks like the general mood about the game is low. And yet the solution to all this could be to begin tapping young talent. Not only in swimming but even other disciplines. We expect much more. Ends.
