THE Soroti district chairperson, Captain john Emilly Otekat, has likened the press to prison warders, who keep wrong doers under close watch, reports Richard Otim.

THE Soroti district chairperson, Captain john Emilly Otekat, has likened the press to prison warders, who keep wrong doers under close watch, reports Richard Otim. He was recently speaking at the closure of a refresher course organised by Soroti district, for the local government prisons staff on skills in prison handling. Otekat said the press had helped in monitoring public service performance in the district and curbing corruption among civil servants in the public offices. "The press and the prisons have helped in reforming our society. They are colleges of reformation from where many corrupt people learn good manners," he said. Otekat said the press was a big pillar in development and caused tremendous changes in the developed world "Discipline is the back bone of any profession and the press must be disciplined to reform and modernise society," he said.
