By Eva Nabagesera CHIEF Justice Benjamin Odoki has congratulated Lady Justice Laeticia Mukasa Kikonyogo on being elected the next president of the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ). "Besides being the first woman to assume the post of Deputy Chief Justice in the history of Uganda, she has also gone ahead to be the first African woman judge to be elected president of the women Judges association," Odoki said. He was addressing guests at a cocktail party held at the Commercial Court on Friday evening to congratulate Kikonyogo on her appointment and election. Odoki said he has always advocated for more women in the Judiciary and promised to work towards ensuring that the next Chief Justice is a woman. Kikonyogo thanked the President for appointing her and more women to the judiciary. "It is gratifying to know that women are now considered judicial material capable of handling offices of responsibility even of the Deputy Chief Justice," she said. She added, "However, it must not be seen as an attempt to feminise the court as some critics had feared but it might as well be taken as intended to humanise the Judicial system and to promote gender justice and equality for all people." She thanked all judges for support. Ends
