MAJOR financing institutions on Tuesday pledged support for joint development

By Charles Wendo in Geneva, Switzerland MAJOR financing institutions on Tuesday pledged support for joint development projects by countries along the River Nile. The World Bank President, James Wolfenson, said cooperation on the River Nile and sustainable exploitation of the resources and cultural diversity of the region could reverse the prevailing poverty and conflicts. Wolfensohn was launching the first ever International Consortium for Cooperation on the Nile, a congregation of various stakeholders including donors, at the Palaise Des Nations (United Nations palace) in Geneva. Uganda hosts the secretariat of the Nile Basin Initiative that also includes Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, the DRC. Ends
