DANIDA through the Ministry of Education and Sports has pledged US$6.5m (sh11.3b) to support various primary schools and tertiary institutions in promotion of agriculture education component.

DANIDA through the Ministry of Education and Sports has pledged US$6.5m (sh11.3b) to support various primary schools and tertiary institutions in promotion of agriculture education component. James Bakunzi reports that the commissioner for business, technical and vocational education (BTVET), Mr. Henry Francis Okinyal, said Arapai and Bukalasa Agricultural Colleges will be rehabilitated and new boards of governors with relevant technical expertise will be appointed to guide the colleges. He was addressing inspectors and planners of the Ministry of Education. "Under the plan for modernisation of agriculture, we want to ensure that pupils in primary schools and tertiary institutions develop a holistic response in relevant tertiary education for the labour market in agriculture and peripheral sectors. He said primary schools in selected districts will get micro-projects for poultry and cattle rearing, agricultural clubs and other farm equipment. Okinyal said another African Development Bank (ADB) loan worth US$4m has also been earmarked for equipment such as vehicles and other agricultural equipment. He said it was important to produce a critical mass of skilled people for rural areas for the implementation of the Plan for Modernisation of Agriculture in the country. Ends
