By Phillip Corry National swimmer Joe Atuhairwe is currently undergoing specialised training in Australia ahead of the national trials due in December plus the Commonwealth games in Manchester next year. The ace swimmer represented Uganda at the 9th World Swimming championships in Fukuoka, Japan last July. Afterwards he moved to Australia where he is preparing for the games next year. “Atuhairwe is currently preparing for the national trials in December and the Club games in Manchester next year,” Simon Peter Mugisha, Uganda Swimming Federation secretary told The New Vision. “He is currently undergoing specialised training in Sydney and that is going to help him a lot.” Uganda Swimming Federation has lined up the national club championship on October 9 among other competitions including the national junior championship on December 1, national trials on December 15 and a coaching clinic funded by FINA from December 5-12. Atuhairwe finished in 83rd position in the men’s 50 meters freestyle out of 91 swimmers in the world meet. He also finished in 85th position in the 100 meters freestyle out of 88 swimmers in Japan though locally he is ranked among the best. ends
