By Douglas Mazune NEWLY formed Fraternity Motor Club (FMC) intends to make motor sport affordable by introducing cross- country rallies for four-wheel drive cars. Cross-country rallies go through areas of low population and use bad roads — while competitors depend on pace notes without route reccing. FMC sports director Serge Evrard revealed this at the launch of the club in memory of late Jimmy Dean at Le Chateau restaurant on Thursday. “This type of competition is perfectly adaptable to Africa. Its formula is easy; long sections, with roads that are not disclosed until the start of the rally,” he said. “If you are mechanically skilled and have a four-wheel vehicle, simply fix roll bars and join the competition,” Serge called. FMC will hold several competitions with the Tour of Uganda in September 2002 the major event. National Council of Sports general secretary Abbey Lutaya presided over the launch sponsored by Pirelli and Lonrho motors. ends
