VETERAN Joachim Okoth stunned Godfrey Luberenga as UCB edged King Slayers in the Uganda Chess Federation national league on Sunday.
UCB’s George Ssenyomo also triumphed over Stephen Kisuze while Peter Maguzi held King Slayers’ Pius Mwinganisa to secure victory for the bankers.
Vianney Luggya defeated UCB’s Michael Mawanda to reduce the margin.
Olympians’ Grace Nsubuga, Stephen Opio and Stephen Kawuma registered wins on board one, two and three as league champions URA hammered Sharing to maintain its position at the top of the table on 26.5 points.
However, former national champion Isaac Munanira lost on board four to hand Sharing its only point.
The league resumes this Sunday.
