By William Muwonge JINJA golfer Fred Mapigo carded 66 stableford points to win the Entebbe Open for the first time. The handicap-7 player, spurred by near perfect putting, triumphed at the par-70 Entebbe Club lakeside course on Sunday. Mapigo rallied from fifth position on the first 18 holes to beat the rest on Sunday. Uganda Golf Club's Alice Owori won the ladies subsidiary title with 68 points, one better than Rhoda Tumusiime from the host club. Podi Kassami was also in good form at 63 points. Jinja Club's Eddie Kasaija and Entebbe's David Kalya both at 64 and G. Gumisiriza at 63 were the other leading performers. Launched in 1998, the Open was the last major event at the Club. It comes after the JBG and Casements Opens held earlier on. Results: Overall winner-F. Mapigo 66 stableford points; Group A (h/c 0-9) E. Kasaija 64 c/b J. Jaffar, D. Akope; Group B (h/c 10-18) G.
