By William Muwonge SKILLED teenager Stephen Kawuma will be the player to beat in the End of the Year Open due next week. The 12-round swiss event is set for December 31 to January 1 at Kampala's EAGEN house. The 19-year old Kawuma is expected to battle over 60 rivals as he defends his title. Kawuma, enjoying his best season since taking up the game over five years ago, will come up against tough opposition. The champion will seek to crown the year with victory having made an impact elsewhere. Kawuma emerged sixth at the Africa Junior Championship, having made a debut at the Olympiad earlier on. Players capable of standing in Kawuma's way include Isaac Munanira, Kawuma Mutumba and Farouk Fauza. Senior players are also set for the competition. Grace Nsubuga, Shadrack Kantinti, Bob Bibasa, Stephen Opio, Steven Kisuze, Joseph Kizza will be in action. The competition will be followed by the national junior championship due in the second week of January. Ends.
