THE king of Bunyoro Kitara kingdom, Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru, has asked the newly-elected MPs from the region to advocate for a university in the area.

Speaking during Sunday prayers in St. Peter’s Cathedral in Duhaga, Iguru said it was time MPs from Bunyoro joined hands and tasked the Government to establish a university in the region within their five-year term of offfice.

Iguru asked the MPs to represent their constituencies and the region well and ensure Bunyoro issues were heard.

“Our people should save the money instead of spending it travelling long distances to other universities,” he said.

Iguru also urged parents to put much emphasis on educating their children, especially girls, adding that educating a girl was educating the whole region and the nation.

He said there was need for the Government to invest more in infrastructural development in Bunyoro. Iguru said this would help his subjects do business and improve their standards of living.

Bunyoro is made up of Hoima, Masindi, Kiryandongo, Bulisa and Kibaale districts.

Iguru said the region was lagging behind in terms of development because of poor infrastructure like schools, roads and hospitals. He also called upon the legislators to participate actively in Parliament.
