DISTRICT leaders in the West Nile sub-region have been urged to develop investment plans so that they can lobby for financing from the Government.

The call was made by the finance state minister (general duties), Fred Omach Jachan, while addressing NRM supporters at the victory party of Dr. Gabriel Aridru, the MP-elect for Arua municipality and Charles Asiki, the mayor.

Omach also called on residents to participate in Government programmes to fight poverty and boost local investment.

He lauded residents for voting for the NRM candidates overwhelmingly and appealed to those still in the opposition to join the party.

Omach noted that President Yoweri Museveni polled 56% of the votes in the region, up from 40% in 2006.

He also said there were 12 MPs going to the 9th Parliament on the NRM ticket, up from seven in 2006.

Omach said the power crisis in the region would be sorted out soon, when Nyagak power plant is completed and Albatos Company operationalises the 10MW power generation plant at Pakwach.

He said the Government planned to generate 3,500MW of power in the whole country by 2017 and construct 22 industrial parks, one of which will be in Arua municipality.

Aridru said his election was a turning point for Arua municipality because it would determine its destiny.

He said his dream was to put up basic infrastructure and propel the town into an industrial city.

Aridru dedicated the victory to his late wife, Josephine Aridru, who died in a car accident two weeks before the polls.

He urged MPs from West Nile to cooperate in order to lobby for services from the Government.

The party, which was held at Arua Public Primary School on Saturday, was attended by the newly-elected MPs from the region and other parts of the country.
