FORUM for Democratic Change (FDC) flag-bearer in the Kyambogo University guild race, Olive Namazzi, was yesterday declared winner.

Namazzi, a second-year student, polled 2,708 votes, beating eight other candidates in the hotly contested race. NRM’s Ivan Musenge was second with 1,791 votes.

Others in the race included DP’s Enoch Okolere who got 1,090 votes, Uganda Federal Alliance’s Patrick Kalama who polled 1007 votes and PPP’s Brighton Nuhamanya who got 124 votes.

Lawrence Katumba got 369 votes, Patrick Oundo polled 120 votes and Deusdenti Kibbula got 96 votes.
However, Namazzi’s rivals vowed to challenge her victory, saying the voting exercise was marred by ballot stuffing and bribery.

The guild electoral commission chairperson, Dastan Bamwesigye, refuted the allegations that the commission had mismanaged the elections.

The situation at the university was tense at the time of announcing the results.

Heavily armed Police was deployed to contain the situation that was feared to result into destruction of property. Namazzi vowed to fight corruption in the guild office.
