Minister Kategaya’s father buried

THE body of Yosiya Kategaya, the father of First Deputy Prime Minister Eriya Kategaya, was on Saturday laid to rest at their ancestral home in Karagwe village, Itojo in Ntungamo district.

THE body of Yosiya Kategaya, the father of First Deputy Prime Minister Eriya Kategaya, was on Saturday laid to rest at their ancestral home in Karagwe village, Itojo in Ntungamo district.

Yosiya was born in 1910 and succumbed to natural causes last Wednesday at the age of 101 years. He is survived by six children and 235 grand children.

He was also the father to Justice Constance Kategaya Byamugisha of the Court of Appeal.

The chief mourner, Prime Minister Apolo Nsibambi, praised him for educating his children into dignified callings.

“He was disciplined, his love and care for cattle was a source of economic sustainability,” Nsibambi, who represented the Government, said.

He delivered President Yoweri Museveni’s contribution of sh5m and another sh8.6m from the Government towards the funeral expenses.

The First Lady, Janet Museveni, said as mourners celebrated the fruitful life of Mzee Kategaya, they should empower the youth as he did, to develop the country.

In her eulogy, she described the deceased as a devout Christian.

Conducting the funeral service, Bishop Dr. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa of Ankole Diocese, advised against opposing the will of God.

He told of Sir William Ramsey, a British archeologist, who spent 30 years studying the gospel of St.Luke with a view to opposing it, but gave up.

Eriya Kategaya described his parents as truthful, loving and trustworthy.

He also donated a bull to one of the family children for caring for their beloved father and grandfather till death did them part.

Present were several ministers including the 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and internal affairs minister, Kirunda Kivejinja, John Nasasira (works), Crispus Kiyonga (defence) and Sam Kutesa (foreign affairs). State Ministers included Dr. Richard Nduhura (Health), among others.
