THE youth have been advised to be creative and not limit themselves in one career. Fagil Mandy, an education consultant, also urged job-seekers to acquire unique skills to impress potential employers and have an edge over other applicants.

He noted that it was a good idea to diversify in other fields of expertise and not to limit themselves to what they studied in school.

‘‘The world has got a lot of opportunities. You need to position yourself above others by offering unique ideas,’’ Mandy said at a sensitisation seminar for small business start-ups and job fair at Hotel Africana in Kampala on Friday.

Commenting on the increasing number of job-seekers, Thadeous Nnyanzi, the business director at Sales Energy, said the poor attitude among many young people and lack of interpersonal skills were to blame.

Nnyanzi called on unemployed youth to develop good interpersonal skills as a strategy to lure potential employers, especially at interview panels.
‘’Many job-seekers are not sure of what to say at the interview panel, which makes them unimpressive to interviewers,’’ he said.

The job fair was organised by Uganda Investment Authority in collaboration with Sales Energy.

Nnyanzi said the job fair was aimed at enabling job-seekers carry out a self analysis, identify and manage factors that hinder them from creating their own jobs.
