OPPOSITION MPS have called for the restraining of Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanya from attending events organised by the NRM party that might impair his impartiality, or else he resigns.
Addressing a press conference at Parliament on Tuesday, the MPs led by Leader of Opposition Nandala Mafabi said that after consultations amongst themselves, they had agreed to move a motion on the matter when Parliament convenes tomorrow (Wednesday).
This follows Oulanya’s attendance of a weekend retreat of NRM MPs at President Museveni’s country home in Rwakitura, and later proceeded to Masaka to tour model farms.
But Oulanya however says that he only attended the meeting on agricultural improvement not only as an agricultural economist but also MP for Omoro, to benefit people of his constituency.
He adds that he refrained from attending the subsequent meeting at State House Entebbe which dealt with party matters.
In the press conference, the opposition said in the motion they are drafting, they will give Oulanyah an option of resigning if he feels he cannot keep away entirely from NRM activities.
