SC Villa defender Denis Guma marked his second season at Villa Park with in-house silverware as the club treated the soccer fraternity to a glamorous awards night at Sheraton Hotel on Saturday.

The Villa captain was the biggest winner on the night, picking up both the Paul Hasule Player-of-the Year and William Nkemba Defender-of-the Year awards amidst applauds from a ‘corporate audience’ of about 400 guests.

Guma, who earned sh2m for both awards surprisingly exhibited both humility and joy. “I am humbled by SC Villa management’s recognition of players. I can’t express my happiness in words. I would like to thank my teammates for enabling me to perform well. I dedicate this award to the entire team and promise that we shall work hard and win titles this season,” Guma said after receiving the prize from Villa Chairman Fred Muwema.

Erukana Nkugwa claimed the Paul Mukatabala Young Player of the year and Ronald Vvubya Midfielder of the Year awards.

Sulait Luyiima took the Edward Nansamba Best Goalkeeper award while Emmanuel Kalyowa claimed the Majid Musisi Golden Boot award. Villa’s long serving secretary Edward Luyimbazi was posthumously awarded the Patrick Kawooya Best Administrator award. Nkemba and Mukatabala expressed gratitude to the club for honouring them and counseled young players on discipline and balancing academics with soccer.

Muwema promised silverware. “Villa management is ambitious but not reckless. We remain focused on bring back the winning culture to the club and it will happen,” Muwema said.

Allan Mugisha, a recently recruited fan pledged sh50m to the club while Quality Chemicals official George Baguma topped sh250,000 on each of the six prizes.
