True meaning of Christmas at SOS Kakiri

Dec 26, 2011

If anyone had invited me to a children’s party before the Sunday, December 11, I would probably have thought that I would feel out of place since all the fun would be for children. I was in for a pleasant surprise; my Sunday afternoon was so enjoyable I could do this every Sunday.

If anyone had invited me to a children’s party before the Sunday, December 11, I would probably have thought that I would feel out of place since all the fun would be for children. I was in for a pleasant surprise; my Sunday afternoon was so enjoyable I could do this every Sunday.

The Christmas party at SOS Children’s village was one of a kind, the guests were welcomed by the friendly serene environment at   SOS Kakiri, the ever smiling village father Caleb Magara, the very loving and caring mothers and the very excited children.

The party started off on a slow note with guests arriving one by one and most seats empty, as one of the organisers, I was starting to worry but by late afternoon, the whole place was buzzing with excited kids and their laughter while jumping on the bouncing castle with their beautifully painted faces. Once we were all seated, we got a small performance from Ice of Circus, an acrobat riding and dancing on his very high one wheel bicycle, while we cheered on.

Before we could recover from the wonders of the acrobat, we received a sensational performance from a group called Pure Souls. These guys rapped Christian songs and made them sound so jiggy; they are obviously destined for bigger things.

It was time to enjoy the tastefully prepared meal, although Christmas day has not come yet, we all ate like it was Christmas accompanied by lots of drinks. While we enjoyed our meal, we got a performance from a group of girls, shaking their waists they put Shakira to shame.

The afternoon took a turn when father Christmas arrived atop of a pickup with his  sack of goodies, the children went wild running and dancing with him, every child wanted a piece of  what he had to offer, they danced and were given sweets and goodies on merit.

We had some more games and a performance from the boys. It was time for the children to cut their Christmas cake and serve their guests after which there was a hugging marathon; each and every one of us had to share a hug in Christmas spirit. As the dance floor was about to be opened, Pastor Wilson Bugembe blessed us with his presence, he took time out to tell his life story to the  very attentive children,  I could see that they were so touched since most of them could relate to it.

The evening was crowned by a short but engaging performance from Pastor Bugembe with the children singing along with him. I can safely say that it was an afternoon worth my time and energy. We, from the bottom of our hearts, say thank you to all the people who supported and showed us love this Christmas season

Thank you so much for putting a smile on those children, we hope that Christmas 2012 will be a bigger and better event.
Merry Christmas
