LEAGUE champions URA FC might have stuttered in particular games this season, but their ability to craft results from seemingly lost situations has been nothing short of incredible.
The tax collectors are now the only unbeaten side in the Bell Uganda Super League but can they extend that run until May when the season closes?
The first of several tests on the path to that landmark achievement comes today against fellow title challengers Bunamwaya in Lugazi.
One factor to consider is that although URA has only kept five clean sheets in their 11 league games, they have only been behind in two matches. Their habit of scoring the first goal has allowed them to press home their advantage as teams are forced to play more expansive football in search of an equaliser.
At the start of the season, some questioned whether URA would be able to compete after losing their lead striker Hamis Kiiza to Tanzanian club Yanga.
Their 15 goal tally so far and the impressive seven goals return from Robert Ssentongo have silenced some of the doubters.
However, there is a long season ahead and with URA set to compete in the CAF Champions League early next year, the sheer amount of football being played could see the unbeaten run come to an end.
That said, like two heavyweights waiting to hear the bell for the 12th and final round, today’s fixture could also be all about bottle and who blinks first.
The game has the potential to be a classic and both teams will boast players with the ability of stamping their authority immediately.
