After days of blaming and counter blaming, finally the Speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga allowed Parliament  this afternoon to discuss a motion seeking to suspend  Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi and Internal Affairs minister Hillary Onek from Parliament.

The motion which has been on order paper since Thursday last week was tabled in the House by Kween MP Chemaswet Kiso (Kween).  It is seconded by MPs Theodore Ssekikubo, Vincent Kyamadidi, Wilfred Niwagaba and Cerinah Nebanda.

While tabling the motion, Kiso said the move to force the ministers to step aside should not be a party issue but a move to help the adhoc committee investigating allegations of Oil bribery go on free.

“I encourage members to look at this issue as a National issue and not a party issue. You should know that you represent your constituencies and not individuals, “he said.

Parliament last month resolved that the two ministers’ step aside as investigations into the alleged oil bribery is complete. The two have not resigned.

MPs complained that the ministers’ delay to step aside was contravention to Parliament’s rules.

On Monday, the NRM caucus reportedly tried to persuade the movers of the motion to drop it but Chemaswet reportedly stormed out of the meeting. Since then there has been divergent views over the matter.
