Involve youth in planning and development

The Government has been told to involve the youth in Bunyoro regions in processes of oil exploration and production as a means of averting possible conflict in the area.

Isaac Jurungo, the World Vision Uganda National Peace building Specialty advised that when youth are involved in the planning and decision making levels, peace and development would be maintained.

“The youth should be in involved in the peace building in order to measure good returns for the development of our country,” Jurungo commented.

 He said this while addressing district leaders and elders fromBunyoro region at Bwanswa subcounty in Kibaale district during a dialogue on how to avoid conflict that may affect the petroleum discovery in the Albertinegrabben.

Jurungo emphasized that the peace would prevail when concerns of the young people in the region are integrated into the district development plans and the road map.

“Youth today, unlike the past lack the knowledge and fear of God in their lives.The bibles says ,”the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom”.My people perish because of lack of knowledge”, so also our youth perish because they  have removed God in their lives and replaces with Fantasies of the World,” said Jurumgo.

According to the current figures on Uganda’s population it is made up of the Youth who are unemployed in our community, said Jurungo.

It was also revealed that Uganda has the youngest population with an average of 15 years.This makes 56.4 percent to be 18 years of age   and below, 75.percent are less than 25 years.

He added that there is need to change the currently educational system that focuses on white co coaler jobs than technical skills. He noted that this was spelt out in the Kajubi commission report of 1996.

In the meeting, it was  also noted that the parents are not involved in the up bring of their children, and this was exposing our children to the Western cultures which  they  get know through the Globlization today .It was also agreed that all child rights should be put in practice..

Furthermore, emphasize the plight of the children and youth within the National Peace Policy considering the enormous historical and current changes faced by the young people in our communities and the country at large.
