Debate on the controversial oil production and sharing agreements commenced on Monday afternoon in a special plenary session chaired by the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

The motion to debate the agreements was moved by the Rwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikuubo (NRM) who gave a brief justification for the House to debate the agreements.

Sekikkubo who tabled documents detailing oil concentration areas and blocks in Bunyoro and other areas where oil was discovered, urged the government to be open with the agreements.

“We are stakeholder in this oil discovery. Ugandans have aright to know what is going. There should be secrecy on this,” he said.

The Speaker first adjourned  the House for 10 minutes after Dokolo county MP Felix Okot Ogong complained that a big number of MPs were meeting else where as an important debate was taking place.

Sources at Parliament indicated that by the time, the House commenced, NRM caucus was still meeting to generate consensus over the debate.

NRM MPs led by the Vice- President Edward Ssekandi and the Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi later joined the House.
