Howard Hewett and Gerald Albright arrive in Kampala

Legendary R&B singer Howard Hewett, former lead singer of the group Shalamar, and saxophonist Gerald Albright arrived in the country ahead of the annual Nile Gold Jazz Safari to take place on Friday night.

Legendary R&B singer Howard Hewett, former lead singer of the group Shalamar, and saxophonist Gerald Albright arrived in the country ahead of the annual Nile Gold Jazz Safari to take place on Friday night.

Hewett came into of fame as part of Shalamar, which had hits like A Night to Remember, Friends, Second Time Around, A Night to Remember, Dancing in the Sheets and the ballad This Is For The Lover In You, There it is. He later went solo, recorded some gospel songs, and also provided guest vocals on albums by jazz artists such as Joe Sample, Brian Culbertson, and George Duke, among others

Albright is an American jazz legend who has toured with such artists as Teena Marie, Quincy Jones, Whitney Houston, and Phil Collins, among others. He was in Kampala last year with South African jazz guitarist Jonathan Butler in the 2010 Jazz safari.

They two are accompanied by 6-member band, including Albright’s daughter Selena, who will do vocals. They will be joined by local musician Tshaka Mayanja on bass guitar and Rico Del Monte on percussion.
