With just two days to the kick-off of the Ugandan Super League 2011/12 season, three clubs are likely to miss out on the sh68m from the league sponsors and will not be entitled to live coverage of their matches on SuperSport unless they sign the Deed of Adherence.

SuperSport is offering sh50m and Bell Uganda sh18m to the clubs each season.

The clubs are Bunamwaya SC, Proline FC and Victors FC who up to yesterday had not signed the Deed of Adherence with USL saying they don’t agree with what is contained in the document set by USL and the league sponsors.

The line of contention stems from an articles that stipulates that the main sponsors have category exclusivity. This implies that once a Title or Official Partner is appointed, a club is not allowed to appoint its own sponsor nor promote at its matches any product in the first one year of signing the contract

On this, Proline director Mujib Kasule says the clause takes away the clubs privileges since they cannot negotiate deals for their clubs. To him this leaves them financially constrained.

“I can’t sign such a thing. If in the Premiership Liverpool can get sponsorship from Standard Chartered Bank yet Barclays is the main sponsor,” argued Kasule.

“And on players’ rights, the player has to remain with his right because that’s how players make money. So for the good of the club and the game in general, we won’t sign unless they look into our cause.”

Basing on the clubs’ refusal to sign, USL has changed the fixture of the first games
