A man who hacked his niece to death with a panga has been sentenced to 24 years in jail by the High Court in Tororo. David Onyango, 34, attacked Lillian Achieng, 13, on October 22, 2010 in Kirewa, Tororo district. He also inflicted multiple injuries on his mother, Velarial Achieng, when she attempted to restrain him.

Unicef hands over relief items in Kween
Unicef on Tuesday handed over relief items to residents of Sikwo in Ngenge sub-county in Kween district who were displaced by floods. Unicef regional programme officer Irene Achom and the organisation’s country water and sanitation officer, Samuel Madol, handed over the relief items to the district disaster management committee at Sikwo resettlement camp.

Kapchorwa to build gravity flow wells
Kapchorwa district local government is to construct four gravity flow schemes at a cost of sh234m to enable the communities access safe water under the 2011/2012 financial year programme, the district secretary for works, Khalifan Chemonges, disclosed.
