HUNGRY for success, Pirates tactician Sam Ahamya spent sh2.8m to fund the a two- day residential camp ahead of the Nile Special Rugby Uganda Cup semi-final tie against Heathens and got loads of value for his money.

Ahamya’s side dubbed the ‘nearly-men of Ugandan rugby, out muscled, outwitted and outshone Heathens, enroute to a 22-16 victory over the hitherto dominant Kyadondo side to make the final.

Pirates Anthony Kinene was named man-of-the-match.

Pirates’ cohesive squad was a joy to watch and it is little wonder that they are deservedly 80 minutes away from reclaiming the Cup they lifted in 2007.

Jude Keremundu gave Heathens a 3-0 lead courtesy of a penalty in the fourth minute.

Pirates replied in the ninth minute with a try by Scot Oluoch after he drove through the Heathens defence.

Benon Kiiza and Keremundu added a try and penalty respectively for Heathens to lead by 11-5.

Pirates fought back with a try by Denis Etucket before Keremundu added a penalty to give Heathens a 13-10 half time Lead.

In the second half Heathens extended the lead to a 16-10 through Keremundu but Pirates turned on the heat with Kinene kicking in three penalties to go up 19-16 in the thrilling encounter televised live on SuperSport.

Oluoch assisted by Kenyan international Kelvin Omiyo and Joel Anguyo were a pain the Heathens defence with hard tackling moves.

At the same time, Kobs defeated Mongers to storm the final.

The semi-finalists entertained a big and cheering crowd.

The final of the annual Uganda Rugby Union competition is scheduled for September 24 in Kampala.
