A man suspected to have been a patient at Mulago hospital was yesterday found dead in a septic tank within the hospital.

According to the Police officer in charge of the hospital, Ben Omoit, the deceased could not be readily identified.

He said the body was taken to the city mortuary and investigations were ongoing.

“The deceased had a cannula on his hand and that is why we are suspecting that he was a patient,” Omoit said.

The Police quoted a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, as claiming that the deceased threw himself into the septic tank.

She said the deceased had tried to kill himself earlier.

Recently, a 23-year-old man plunged to the ground from the fifth floor of the hospital’s main building and died instantly. Records show that three people committed suicide at the hospital recently.

Meanwhile, the Police have arrested an 18-year-old woman for allegedly trying to steal a newborn baby from the hospital.

The hospital’s spokesperson, Dan Kimosho, said Irene Namubiru tried to bribe a cleaner with sh100,000 to steal the baby from the ward.

“The lady came as a patient, claiming to be eight months pregnant. But the pregnancy tests were negative and her body organs were normal,” he said.
