TWO UPDF soldiers and a civilian have been arrested in connection with a robbery at a supermarket in Jinja town.

South-eastern regional Police commander Ben Mubangizi said the suspects were arrested on Tuesday night.

He identified the soldiers as Cpl. Mohammed Kiyimba and staff Sgt. John Ssenfuma attached to Magamaga army barracks in Mayuge district.

The civilian, who whisked the soldiers away on a motorcycle after the robbery, was Charles Oluma Chan.

Mubangizi made the disclosure on Wednesday at the Regional Rapid Response Unit (RRU) offices at Nalufenya in Jinja.

He said the soldiers first attacked Musa Muwanguzi, an armed Local Defence Unit operative who was on foot patrol in Walukuba.

They stabbed him with a knife in the left upper arm and made off with his gun.

Mubangizi said the soldiers then broke into Pramukh Krupa Supermarket located on Plot 47, Lubas Road in Jinja. They robbed the manager, Patel Chandresh, of sh3m and shot him in the left arm.

Residents heard the gunshot and alerted the Police, who, together with RRU officers, mounted a search for the robbers.

“The robbers abandoned the gun and motorcycle in Walukuba, but the security operatives arrested them in an operation headed by the Jinja district Police commander,” Mubangizi narrated.
