THE Ministry of Health plans to isolate the UPDF peacekeepers exposed to dengue fever in Somalia until they recover.

Health minister Dr. Christine Ondoa said by yesterday, 117 cases had been confirmed among the Ugandan troops.

She said the outbreak occurred at a time when a group of soldiers were set to complete their tour of duty on the peacekeeping mission in Somalia.

Normally, AMISOM soldiers serve for nine months before withdrawing and being replaced in a routine rotational exercise.

“We will isolate them until they are well and can go home. Even when they go home after recovering, we shall give them insecticide-treated nets,” Ondoa said.

She said the ministry was working with the army’s health department and the World Health Organisation to control the outbreak and prevent the disease from being imported into the country.
