JUST moments after the She Cranes were crowned All Africa Games netball champions, President Yoweri Museveni called the team at the Athletics Village, promising them support.

The President reportedly called through the team manager Nicholas Muramagi’s phone and after getting a full update of the Ugandan team’s performance, he asked to talk to a number of medalists.

It is said Museveni first spoke to team captain Florence Amono in English, but when he asked for Amono’s district of origin, the President then changed to Alur.

“Congratulations for the performance. It has been good and I will meet you when you come back and we talk more,” the President reportedly told Amono before asking to speak to Annet Negesa, a gold medallist in the 800m race.

He reportedly teased Negesa by speaking in Lumasaba, after Negesa told the President that she comes from Budadiri, but now stays in Jinja.

Negesa spoke the longest, but reportedly rushed for a bottle of water, to cool off, after the call.

After Negesa, Museveni spoke to Christine Akullo.
