KAMPALA Capital City Authority (KCCA) has resumed the campaign to rid the city of illegal structures.

The operations kicked off yesterday from Nakawa Division where over ten structures were destroyed.

By press time, KCCA enforcement officers had destroyed a twenty-roomed premise at Mbuya near the Catholic church and a perimeter wall to a double-storyed building at Bukoto.

The KCCA director of physical planning, George Agaba, said the developers had ignored the construction regulations despite warnings from the Authority.

Agaba said the concrete perimeter wall built in the community access road to Naguru area had also developed cracks.

Under the building regulations, developers are expected to submit their building plans to KCCA for approval and one is supposed to begin construction following a commencement letter.

Last week, the KCCA executive director said over twenty buildings in the central division were to be affected.

The most affected included developers of arcades, who converted their building plans from parking space into shops.

Other groups to be affected include illegal kiosk operators and those who set up illegal staircases next to their buildings.
