The Katikkiro (Buganda premier), J.B. Walusimbi, has urged everybody to go back to work since the situation has returned to normal.
Walusimbi said there is no more reason for traders in Kampala and other areas in Buganda to keep their shops closed.
“There is no more chaos. The situation is back to normal. Let us all return to our businesses as we wait for whatever comes next,” the Katikkiro told The New Vision yesterday.
Walusimbi also dismissed the messages that are being circulated via mobile phone related to last week’s riots.
Some messages urge Mengo supporters to continue with the riots. Others falsely claim that Betty Nambooze has been shot and that the Kabaka is under house arrest, while others urge the public to resume the boycott against New Vision and Bukedde.
The Katikkiro categorically dismissed that Mengo had anything to do with the messages. He said he had not seen or received any of them. The Buganda kingdom did not support them, he added.
The Government yesterday announced that the source of the misinformation and hate messages was being investigated.
Walusimbi said Mengo was now focusing on mobilizing the Baganda to work hard and fight poverty.
He confirmed that Mengo plans to hold talks with President Yoweri Museveni over several pertinent issues, including the re-opening of their radio stations.
The Government revoked the licenses of the two CBS radio stations, owned by the kingdom, as well as three others over what it called inciting people to riot.
