The mayor of Kira Town Council, Mamerito Mugerwa, has advised town councils in Uganda to team up for the common goal in their localities.

“We have similar problems like solid waste management, safe water coverage and sanitation,” he said.

Mugerwa said teaming up would also help them to lobby for funds so as to improve service delivery before twinning with cities abroad for the same.

Mugerwa was meeting a delegation of 30 councillors and technical officers from Kaliro town council led by their mayor Sam Gamutambuli.

He said although Kira town council is the biggest town council in Uganda, it has also registered the highest population growth due to its existing land marks and infrastructure.

Mugerwa added that due to population growth, Kira Town Council faces a problem of solid waste management.

He said they have purchased five acres of land for solid waste management. However, Mugerwa added that they are not enough.

He said the other common problem is planning for already existing developments in the town council. Mugerwa advised the councillors not to politicise the collection of taxes and service delivery.
