FUFA is in search for sh120m to prepare and take the U-20 women national soccer team through the two-legged fixture against Zambia in the next round of the 2011 Women World Cup qualifiers. The Ugandans will play host on December 5.

The team eliminated Rwanda 3-1 on aggregate in the preliminary round where the federation spent over sh70m.

FUFA technical director Asuman Lubowa yesterday said they had drawn a budget which includes training for the team, catering for officials, allowances and air tickets to Zambia.

“We are using all resources to ensure that we honour all our engagements. We are also going to write to the ministry seeking their help. We are targeting both the sports and women ministries to assist these girls achieve their life long dreams,” said Lubowa.

He said because of lack of funds, the team travelled by road to Rwanda for the second leg.

“The executive committee is to meet and discuss ways of getting funds. We also have the national senior team that is set to start training for CECAFA. Both teams have no sponsors but they have to compete,” said Lubowa yesterday.

* CECAFA member associations will know their opponents for the Senior Challenge Cup next week, according to secretary general Nicholas Musonye, adds Swalley Kenyi.

The event is to take place in the Western Kenya town of Mumias and the capital Nairobi November 28 – December 13.

The draw was due yesterday but CECAFA’s Musonye said both the draws and fixtures will be released on the same day next week.
