THE Anti-Corruption Coalition Uganda (ACCU) has demanded that the Government implements the recommendations of the Global Fund Report.
Addressing journalists at the ACCU Kamwokya offices yesterday, coordinator Geoffrey Rwakabale said, “Whereas we applaud the government’s action to institute a commission of inquiry into the alleged mismanagement of the Global Fund, the sincere demand of ACCU is that this report should not join the long list of those still gathering dust.”
He expressed concern at the time it has taken the Government to come to the bottom of the facts, which he claimed were clear to ACCU from the start.
“We regret the loss of lives, financial resources and the vital development from the glaring evidence of the corruption of the GF management,” he said.
Justice James Ogoola, who headed the commission, on Wednesday handed over the 400-page report to President Yoweri Museveni.
The report recommended that the three former ministers of health, Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi (above), Capt. Mike Mukula and Dr. Alex Kamugisha be probed further with a view to prosecuting them, for among others, perjury, causing financial loss and uttering false documents.
Rwakabale also expressed concern that the parliamentary vetting committee only considered academic qualifications and ignored personal integrity and morality.
