Bukenya builds clinic

Publication date: Monday, 27th December, 2004

RESIDENTS of Bembe village, Namayumba sub-county in Wakiso district will no longer travel long distances to access health care as Vice-President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya has built a dispensary there.

Fred Nangoli reports that Bukenya used personal funds to build the unit, which will serve at least 3,000 people. Betty Namala Memorial Dispensary was named after a former bush fighter, who later became a committed health worker in Wakiso district.

Launching the dispensary on Wednesday, Bukenya said pregnant women were dying during labour because they lived far away from proper medical services.

The dispensary has an operating table, a vaccination fridge, two beds, solar power and a VIP latrine.
