THE United Nations Economic Commission for Africa has urged African countries to remove bottlenecks to intra-African trade and galvanise a united front against discrimination in the global market.

It also called on developed countries to remove anti-trade barriers to reduce poverty and other misery on Africa.

UNECA chief K.Y Amoako and finance minister Gerald Ssendaula (right) yesterday opened the 23rd meeting of the Committee of Experts of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

Ssendaula said Africa’s first challenge on the external front was how to cope with trade practices that undermine the demand for the continents goods due to different forms of subsidies and tariffs in the developed world.
