Uganda has second worst accident rate in the world

Publication date: Tuesday, 16th June, 2009

Uganda has been ranked second in the world in terms of road accidents.

This was revealed by the Secretary General of the Uganda Red Cross Society, Michael Nataka.

Together with a team from the United Kingdom, the Red Cross have organised a humanitarian run from Pallisa to Kampala. Most of the accidents have occurred mainly on high ways like the one where the race will be run.

With increased road accidents it is important to train communities in first aid treatment, Nataka has said.

Red Cross volunteers will disseminate information about road safety and also conduct blood donation sessions to communities, Nataka says.
