Publication date: Thursday, 28th May, 2009

Uganda loses 27 million dollars annually due to striga weeds which affect cereal crops.

The Senior Agricultural Inspector in the ministry of Agriculture Mary Asio says Striga has reduced production of cereals to about 90,000 tonnes.

Asio says striga weeds are mostly affecting the West Nile, Eastern and the northern part of the country.

She calls upon scientists to design a strategy that will help reduce the seed bank of striga in the soil.
