VICE-chancellors from all Ugandan universities have called for increased funding for science subjects in secondary schools. The chancellors said the Government had not shown commitment in promoting science and technology.

“We agree with the Government’s move to enforce science education but little effort has been put in. There is need for more support from the Government to boost secondary schools to encourage students. We are going to continue lobbying for it,” they said.

The university heads made the call during the 24th meeting of the Uganda Vice-Chancellors’ Forum held at the Kampala campus of the Islamic University in Uganda last week.

The chairman, Dr. Ahamad Sengendo, stressed the need for the Government to improve the science infrastructure in secondary schools.

He also called for the training of more science teachers.
